I have done some comparisons here on a 5MP version of those which claimed 1800 ppi but delivered less than 800 ppi on a test target. It’s probably important to separate “megapixels” of the image to the actual optical image quality, which is likely to be smaller. The first three of those scanners are different from the Plustek in that they are a small fixed digital camera dedicated to imaging the film, whereas the Plustek is a traditional film scanner. Would anybody have a good idea of what to expect from those, or would somebody be able to provide some sample images from negatives?

I can find a few reviews around, but they tend to focus on convenience and megapixels and very few of them compare image quality or show samples of the output. It seems like I could grab one of these relatively cheaply, and as long as the quality isn't too bad I'd probably be happy enough with 'good enough' quality images that I could save in the cloud somewhere in case my house burns down, and maybe I could identify the 5 or 10 good shots in there and do something else with those. Plustek 8100 (maybe getting out of my price range) I found out today that you can pick up a relatively inexpensive slide scanner nowadays, options I can see so far are: I've been kicking around the idea for quite a few years of sending off my old negatives to ScanCafe or similar for scanning, and I've never managed to get around to it due to general laziness and a feeling that my old photos probably aren't worth the cost of scanning.
